Fort Lauderdale Wedding Planner | Oh My Occasions

We are talking to Amber of Oh My Occasions today about her passion for planning events from a young age, her favorite part of the client experiences she aims to create, and how a degree in film production melded together with creating life’s biggest occasions!

Tell us a little bit about you and what you and the events you bring to life through Oh My Occasions!

Oh My Occasions is a wedding and event planning firm based in South Florida. “Embracing your unique story and bringing your vision to life.”

We specialize in incorporating the elements that make your love story so special. Encouraging our couples to tell us all their favorite memories, preferences, and styles allows us to share those unique characteristics through wedding day details. Our goal is to plan and produce an event that is a true reflection of our clients.

We offer full-service planning, partial planning, and event management packages that are designed and priced to fit the event specifics. What sets Oh My Occasions apart is our attention to detail and our desire to find our clients the best vendors for their personality, budget, and style. Through our “vendor matching” program, we are able to recommend the perfect DJ, photographer, florist, etc. based on the details you share with us. Every love story is unique, and we work hard to make sure you are paired with the perfect vendors and aesthetics to match your one-of-a-kind love.

At Oh My Occasions, we recognize an event as a team effort. Not only are we catering to our bride and groom for upwards of 18 hours on the wedding day, but it’s important that we recognize the joint endeavor so that everyone is able to provide their best services and products. You’ll see us hands-on, moving tables, rearranging escort cards if we aren’t perfectly satisfied, and running through the rain while we check all the event spaces. We are the last ones to leave your event (yes, up until that last rental truck drives away!) We’re pressing the elevator doors shut as you head to your bridal suite for the night or tapping the back of the limo to send you off as newlyweds. As the (ever-recognizable) wedding planner, we set the tone for the entire day. It is imperative that our can-do attitude and smiling face are present to all guests, clients, and vendors. We maintain a calm demeanor and are always prepared with binders full of timelines and floor plans, with extra emergency kits to share!

Oh My Occasions is known for embracing clients with a desire to do the “never been done before” or those anxious to create their own traditions. We’ve had clients serve their guests gourmet hamburgers while they passed out custom bibs, and once, we created a Bourbon & Bacon Speakeasy with a secret password that had to be spread around the reception in order to get a drink! I’m most proud of having clients who trust us with their, sometimes, unconventional ideas, and mostly with such an important day in their lives.

What fueled you to turn your passion into a business?

From a young age, I had a passion to organize events. My family’s home was the venue of choice for huge holiday parties, so I caught the planning bug early on in life. As the only daughter and middle child, I was in love with the spotlight. I’d put together “Basement Broadway” productions that rivaled New York City theater.

With my brothers and cousins as often unwilling actors, I produced elaborate shows with intricate scripts, detailed timelines, assigned seating, ticket sales, customized menus, complex wardrobe, and makeup… black eyes and rosy cheeks were my specialties.

By the ripe age of 5, I was the ultimate party planner! A degree in film production and later a career in planning corporate events helped me recognize the opportunity to join my passions together. My childhood productions have now evolved into planning life’s biggest and best occasions.

I still love peeking from behind the curtain and watching the audience’s reaction… I live for those “oh my” occasions!

What is the biggest cornerstone of an event planned by Oh My Occasions?

We take a great level of pride in the amount of personalization that goes into our events. My clients become my friends, and I feel a true commitment to them as my couples. Being able to really get to know our brides and grooms is something we take very seriously and thoroughly. By being able to understand who you are, and what your tastes are, we can create an event that matches that.

What is your – ‘I live for this’ moment when planning an event?

Oh man, I’ve got to say I love menu tastings, but that’s an easy answer. And of course aside from the actual wedding day coming together, during the planning phase, I love getting to know my clients. This way I can surprise them with fun gifts throughout the planning process and on their wedding day (one bride loved Minions, so I gave her slippers to wear while she got ready wedding morning, or a gift certificate to a bride and groom who love nitrogen ice cream). The reaction and thanks that I get when the bride and groom see how much I was paying attention is really neat.

What is one thing most people would be surprised to know about the wedding planning industry?

There’s so much passion! I have been lucky enough to meet and interact with a plethora of creatives who love what they do. Those individuals and companies make the best teams come wedding day. When you surround yourself with people who LOVE what they do, they make an extra effort to take pride in what they do as well.

If you could sum up your life by using one movie title – what would it be?

Ugh, I’m not going to use this as my answer but obviously, “The Wedding Planner” is accurate. I’m going to say “It Happened One Night”- one because it’s my favorite movie, and 2 because I can use it to describe any of my events. “Ever had a guest wear white to the wedding?” Oh, it happened one night!

What’s one valuable lesson that you’ve learned being an entrepreneur that you would like to share?

BELIEVE IN YOURSELF & NEVER FORGET YOUR “WHY”. Seriously, being your own boss is ahhhhmazing. But sometimes it gets lonely, sometimes it feels like everything that could go wrong does (and sometimes it actually does), but most of the time, you feel on top of the world! On this entrepreneurial roller coast, there will be ups and downs and spins and upside downs and abrupt stops and tons of whiplash BUT it’s all worth it. Through those tough times, don’t ever stop believing in yourself, your passion, and WHY you began. For me, I do this because I was always meant to. From the first time I took a bow at one of my childhood productions, I knew this is what pleased my soul.

Last question! How do you take your coffee?

Handed to my husband. Haha, I’m a Water Enthusiast!
