Kristina & John’s Backyard Wedding

Take every notion you have about Backyard Weddings and toss them right out the window because this wedding is going to knock you right out of your formal attire!

John and Kristina had a backyard wedding at her father’s home in New Jersey. Besides being an incredibly impressive DIY wedding (they’re both hairstylists and very creative, hands on people), one of the best aspects of the wedding was that most of their guests expected to be going to an engagement party! It was definitely a happy surprise to everyone who showed up and realized they were actually there for a wedding!

The wedding was very laid back and personalized to fit the styles of Kristina and John. The bride kept her tattoos on display all night (except for when she cut the wedding cake wearing a black leather jacket!) in a cute short white dress and blue suede pumps, while John wore a navy suit and suspenders. He also sported a navy bow tie that matched the one their pug, Stanley, proudly wore all evening! Their families all pitched in to help create a beautiful ceremony and reception space in the backyard where Kristina grew up as a child. Everything was hand-made or bargain hunted at flea markets, from the ceremony arbor and homemade bar to the table settings and flower displays to the home baked desserts and photo booth! – Olivia of Olivia Christina Photography
I’m a huge fan of incorporating your furbaby into your wedding day. What’s more: Kristina & John made it a family affair with John and Stanley wearing matching bow ties in a shade that also match Kristina’s footwear, adorbs!
And the DIY decor Olivia mention? It is packed full of the couple’s personal style, including a wooden pallet memory board.
Stand Out Style
I saved the best (and my absolute favorite) for last .. Kristina’s cake cutting attire!
The bride slipped on her uber chic leather jacket to cut her sweet treat.
