I’m on vacation! Wohoo! I had a ‘free’ minute to myself in between festivities and I, of course, am spending it blogging. Bloggers gonna Blog right?! I did a majority of the packing for the three of us and over-packing cames natural to me. Once I started filling suitcases and bags I couldn’t stop! I would suddenly ‘remember’ something to pack and then something else that needed to go with the first thing until it became an all consuming task. Now that we are in our over-stuffed hotel room, I started to think of all the things that sweets begrudgingly unpacked from the car that *maybe* we didn’t really need to bring.
I wanted to share some quick tips with you on packing for your honeymoon so your packing doesn’t become quite the chore mine did!
1) Hair Dryer
“Hair is a commitment”, that’s one of my oldest and truest motto’s. I have traveled up and down the eastern seaboard of the United States more times than I can count, I have stayed in cheap-o hotel’s and five star resort’s, not one of them was ever without a hair dryer. Skip packing it for your honeymoon and save yourself the weight in baggage, especially if you are flying.
We are currently averaging 91 degree days. I can barely wear sunscreen without it melting off, I’m also convinced that the flesh on my face is melting off with it. I probably didn’t need to pack Exhibit A
In panic mode packing, I packed my ENTIRE makeup kit, save for my Urban Decay Naked Palette. We have been here three days, I haven’t touched it once. When you pack for your honeymoon, try to commit to a few ‘essentials’ that can fit in a small travel sized makeup case, BB cream, mascara, and a small palette of eye shadow etc. Three shades of blush and two bronzers are probably not necessary.
Whittle this down to the following: a pair of pool/beach sandals, daytime activity comfort shoes, and a pair of evening shoes. Try to keep your shoe count at or below three when packing for your honeymoon.
4) Electronic Devices
Here is another area that gets gray for me. You and your sweetie each pack your own personal phone. That’s it. Just. Stop. If you are tempted to pack your iPad or Kindle so you have something to read or watch on the journey to your destination rethink of it as ‘extra’ time that the two of you can use to connect after the festivities of your wedding, and focus on each other. Devices will detract with constant interruptions, use this time to unplug and and refocus.
Another quick tip, try to pack as far in advance as possible! If you are leaving for your honeymoon the night of your wedding or the day/days following your wedding you do not want to be rushed into throwing items in a suitcase at the last minute which will cause, panic, stress and overpacking (yes I fell victim to this as well) Give yourself a window of 3-5 days to pack for your honeymoon, prior to your departure.
Finally, beware the overpriced water.
Now that you are all packed, where is your destination??
