Preparing Yourself for Wedding Dress Shopping

*Today’s post is written by guest blogger Nickey from CFTH Events and Design Nickey is my local blogger buddy and her passion is to make brides inspiration come to life*

Once upon a time there was a guy called Mr. Right. He found the woman he’s always dreamed of having by his side. Not wanting her to slip by, he decided to make her his wife. So he proposed and she said yes. They set a date and started planning their magical wedding when she realized something was missing. What is the matter my darling? She leaned in with a smile and said “oh nothing”. Immediately she got on the phone with one of the ladies she knew the best and expressed in excitement “I need to go shopping. I haven’t said yes to any dress”.

Excited bride right? Going wedding dress shopping can be exciting, stressful and super emotional. While some brides may embrace this day in excitement, others may dread the thought of facing the day. Every bride-to-be should be as excited as Mr. Wright’s bride. Your wedding day shopping experience should be enjoyed. After all it’s one of the biggest moments in a girl’s life. There’s a secret formula that I discussed with Mr. Wrights bride and today I’d like to share that formula with you. So without further ado here’s 8 Tips Every Bride Needs To Know before She Says Yes to the Dress. Oh and BTW the secret formula is PREPARATION.

1. Sample Styles

Spend some time clipping or pinning dress styles you like. Create a scrapbook or Pinterest board (do not get carried away with the dresses on pinterest and in magazine. Fitting is the most important thing) so you can have everything in one place. You may have a preferred style but remember to keep an open mind. You maybe surprise. What you think may not look good on you just might be the dress you say yes to.

2. Prep to Look Fab

Prep from the night before. Pick out something cute and simple to wear. Be sure to find something that’ll be easy to put on and take off without any complications. Find and organize everything that you’ll need for your big day and place each item in there appropriate place. Go to bed at a decent time so you can get plenty of rest. Remember you have an appointment (which should be made in advance) and will need to be on time. You also need time to look FAB of course. You are the bride and you want to feel confident. Do a similar hair style to the one you’ll be wearing on your big day, with minimal makeup. This will also give you and your bridal consultant a taste of your style. So prepping the night before will definitely help to make your shopping day run smoothly.

3. Feed Your Tummy

Hungry tummies will create angry brides. It is very important to eat a small meal before you go shopping. You may have to try on a few gowns and you want to be in a great frame of mind and be able to think straight and decide which dress is perfect for you.

4. Undergarments

Make sure to wear cute and appropriate underwear. Remember that a consultant will be assisting you while you get in and out of dresses. Bring a strapless bra. This way you will be able to try on different style gowns.

5. Wedding Shoes

Have you purchased your wedding day shoes? If not tag along with a pair of shoes with a heel height similar to the one you’ll be wearing on your wedding day. Are you a flats/sandal loving bride? That’s just fine. Bring or wear your flats on your dress shopping day. It is important to know your heel height before your dress fitting for accurate measurements.

6. The Brides Personal Glam Squad

Remember this day is supposed to be fun, exciting and stress free so make sure to invite two or three people to accompany you, people who knows your style and have a sense of style themselves. Remember everyone’s personality and style is different and it will be very difficult and confusing having a crowd at your fitting. You need to be able to feel free to choose what you like and are comfortable wearing on your big day. Not what Aunt Susie and granny Jackie wants.

7. Assign a Note Taker

Before your shopping day, choose someone from your Glam Squad to note the dresses you are trying on. Note the style, color, designer and store. Remember you’ll probably try on a few dresses and if not noted, it will probably be a challenge to remember the ones you did try on. Also keep in mind that you do not have to make a decision right away. Take notes or bring a camera/phone for pics (check with the bridal shop to see if they allow you to take pics) and go home and think about it more. Once you have the information for all dresses you can pull them up online or view pictures you have taken. BUT if you think you’ve found her on your first visit…Don’t be afraid to say yes to her right away.

8. Plan to Unwind

So it’s over. Whether you have chosen a dress or not, you need time to unwind. Plan a date that evening with your best girls or fiance. Eat, drink, chat and relax. Share your moment and just enjoy yourself. You’re not just planning a wedding; you’re building memories so have fun and if you didn’t say yes to a dress, that’s ok.

Saying yes to the dress can be easy as 123 but you’ve got to apply the formula which is preparation. Whatever you have to do to make this day fun and smooth for you, I encourage you to do it (good things only). Life is full of surprises so keep an open mind and be prepared if anything should go off course (nothing is set in stone). If something changes breathe and try not to let anything ruin your big moment. You’ve dreamed about this moment and now it’s here. Prepare as best as you can so you can be ready to say yes to your dress.
